Since 1963, the Aguilera family has dedicated themselves to the manufacture
of Mayolican ceramics. Mayolica is a porous ceramic that has its beginnings
in Spain; the name Mayolica is derived from Mallorca, a Spanish island
on the commercial naval route to Italy.
Clays used in the production of these fine ceramics are processed by decantation.
Once the thrown pieces are dry, they are given a first firing. Next, they
are decorated and then the glaze is applied, consisting of the five colors
that are traditionally used in Mayolica: blue, green, mother-of-pearl,
yellow and black. The pieces are then given a second firing at a higher
temperature that sets the glaze and colors.
The process for creating these ceramics is completely manual, as each piece
is thrown and decorated by hand. Naturally this prohibits uniformity of
fabrication but always results in a one-of-a-kind authentic and unique
piece of art. For that reason, please note that no two pieces will be
exactly alike. |
